When should I take my child to a dentist is a very common question asked by parents? The simplest answer to the query is – the first visit to the dentist takes place at the age of one year. At this age, you can see the development of teeth. The fact is, babies are scared of their first visit to the dentist. So, in this article, we will be talking about a few tips to make your baby feel relaxed during his first dental visit.

1. Tell Him The Truth About Dentist’s Visit

Before you go to the dentist, do not make a big deal about it. Instead of telling fabricated stories, it is better to convenience your baby about the visit. Tell your toddler that you are taking him to the dentist and it is for his betterment. While convincing, you must adopt a relaxed and natural attitude.

2. Let Him Take His Favorite Toy

Encourage him to take his favorite toy with him. This will make your baby feel comfortable. Some toys also make children feel safe.

3. Morning Is The Best Time

It rather sets a visit during the morning, when the child is rested and with fresh forces, both physical and emotional.

4. Choose A Dentist Carefully

Make sure you take him to a dentist who has experience and patience with the children. Such a specialist knows how to explain to your little one what each instrument does, to show them closely. As it is going to be your child’s first experience, hence make sure it is enjoyable.

Personally, even I was worried about my daughter’s first dental experience. However, the trick is – you need to be calm. You must not show any fear.

10. Choose Your Words Carefully Regarding Dentist’s Visit

Talk to your child in optimistic terms about dental consultation. Avoid using any kind of words like “pain,” “injection,” “you will not hurt at all.” These are going to scare your kids.

Tell him that a visit to the dentist does not necessarily mean that he will be using all the equipment like a drill or something.
